Tamandaré is a town and municipality in the southern coast of Pernambuco State, Northeast region of the country. Belongs to the Mesoregion of Pernambuco and to the Microregion of Mata Mata Meridional Pernambucana, located at 109 km south of the capital of Pernambuco.
Occupies a land area of 214307 km2, being 1.416 km2 urban perimeter. According to population estimates, its population in 2014 was about 22323 inhabitants, being the most populous municipality of 95° Pernambuco. The municipal seat has an annual average temperature of 24.4° C7, with native vegetation and prevalent the Atlantic forest, with excerpts of restinga and mangroves.
With 73.23% of the municipal population living in the urban area, in 2009 Tamandaré had eight medical institutions. Its human development index (HDI-M) is 0.593, being considered as low as compared with the State value.
The main economic activities in Tamandaré are based in tourism, artisanal fishing, food and beverage industry and agriculture especially coconuts.
